The youth (grades 6-12) of Hope Presbyterian Church are involved in a variety of activities and ministries in the life of the church. In addition to regular activities such as Sunday school and Sunday evening youth fellowship, the youth of Hope also volunteer with children’s activities, regularly serve our community, attend regional and national Presbyterian youth conferences and camps, plan and lead worship, and provide leadership for the whole church by serving and Ruling Elders and Deacons. Youth Sunday school is every week at 9:30 a.m. upstairs in the A&E building. They all meet together in AE202 for gathering and an opening prayer. Then the Senior High (high school) and Junior High (middle school) meet separately to dive into their lessons.
On Sunday evenings, all the youth come together to share a meal and fellowship at 6:15 p.m. in the A&E Gym. At 6:45 p.m., the youth start their evening activities which may include games, videos, service projects, devotions, and other activities. Sometimes the Senior High and Junior High students do separate activities and other weeks they are combined. At 7:45 p.m., all youth come together again for scripture, prayer, and singing at our closing vespers. Parents are invited to join us for their time of worship before we resume our busy weeks.
Every spring, the youth plan and lead a worship service for the whole congregation on Youth Leadership Sunday. The youth write and lead the prayers, liturgy, sermons, and lead all of the music.
The youth look forward to several trips throughout the year. Each January, we travel to Mo-Ranch in the Texas Hill Country to participate in Mission Presbytery’s Midwinter Youth Conferences. We also participate in other Mission Presbytery events such as Main Event, Spring Youth Rally, and Youth at Presbytery. Every summer, the youth take several days out of their vacation to serve on our annual mission trips.
