This week, Pastor Josh explored the challenging call of discipleship through Jesus’s words in Luke 14:25-33, using the Wright Brothers’ historic first flight as a metaphor for throwing away the “keys” that keep us tethered to shallow faith. Drawing parallels between the brothers’ courage to launch without safety nets and Jesus’s call to count the cost of discipleship, the message challenged listeners to move beyond “convenience Christianity” toward wholehearted commitment. The sermon launched a new series called “Mission Matters,” emphasizing that true discipleship naturally overflows into mission work, and invited the congregation to use Rally Day as an opportunity for soul-searching about what following Jesus will truly cost them.
